Last week was the official moving day for Discovery Special Academy. Discovery is the first free special school for children aged 2-11 with complex learning and physical needs in Middlesbrough. SEND and Inclusion is proudly one of Tess Valley Educations specialisms. We hope to provide targeted interventions which are made available to those children who need them, at the earliest opportunity. This project has been in the works for 7 long years. For us, SEND education is more than just a ‘box to be checked’. TVED SEND has grown slowly and thoughtfully to become a family of academies that work together to blend the best educational and therapeutic practices there are to offer. The Discovery Special Academy is fully equipped with the best SEND education teaching staff, facilities, therapies, and resources on offer.
Discovery Special Academy and all of its staff and children have been in temporary accommodation over at our Brambles Academy sight since 2018. Move-in day arrived and was filled with both excitement and emotion. Staff worked incredibly hard all week to prepare the new building for the children’s return. Stacks of boxes filled with books, toys, and learning materials lined the hallways but with a lot of hard work, enthusiasm, and teamwork, the job got done. Tees Valley Education would like to thank all Discovery staff and hope it was all worth it.
In other exciting news, the opening of the Discovery Special Academy also marks the beginning of Tees Valley Education first ever secondary education division. We welcome our first group of year 7s and over the upcoming years look forward to rowing the secondary division further. Our work is never done and we will continue to work on our SEND education division to provide every child with the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Middlesbrough Mayor, Andy Preston, came to visit not so long ago. Click here to check out what he had to say!
