Power of Women (PoW) was set up because Teesside was named one of the worst places to grow up in because of the lack of opportunities for women to work in industry and to be paid equally. Every member of our class was shocked to hear this – especially the boys!
This stark piece of information made us feel scared for our futures, but instead of allowing this statistic to continue, at Dormanstown Primary a small group of us have become PoW ambassadors and we have a passion for making change and our work with PoW is the beginning of our journey.
PoW is a great thing to be part of, it gives us a platform to make our feelings heard. We were chosen by a selection panel and it was our first time being interviewed! It was scary but it was such a good experience.
The work of PoW links with our school value of ‘Aspiration’. We hope that as part of our work we can promote equal opportunities more widely. By recognising the importance of equal opportunities, we can create a fairer, more inclusive community in Teesside.
